This month, we want to highlight Advisor Bishop Beall, based in the Charlotte metro area, for his work with the Sports Outreach in communities around the world, including Uganda, Kenya, India, Brazil, and here in the United States.
Bishop has been working with Sports Outreach since 2012. “My wife, Kristy, and I had no idea what to expect, but can tell you that our world view was permanently changed and we continue to be blessed beyond measure as a result,” he says. “I had the opportunity to lead short-term trips in 2015 (Uganda), 2017 (Uganda), and 2024 (Uganda and Kenya).” Bishop and Kristy just returned from another impactful trip serving in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.
Sports Outreach aims to transform lives by engaging on three fronts: on-field sports, off-field humanitarian aid, and sustainability initiatives.
Through on-field sports, team members provide a unique vehicle that appeals and moves across race, religion, age, and gender. Their on-field activities “combine high-level athletic instruction with personal mentorship can be a part of opening almost any door at any level of society, and in so doing, restore hope and transform lives.”
Off the field, their goal is to “restore hope and transform lives by meeting the community’s physical and spiritual needs.” That takes the shape of a four-fold focus on nutritional, educational, vocational, and medical needs within a community.
And to promote sustainability here at home and abroad, they’ve partnered with those on the ground to open local thrift stores and their international fashion institute. This supports local communities by providing affordable goods, vocational training, employment, and more.
In 2016, Bishop was invited to join Sports Outreach’s Board of Directors, and stepped into the Board Chair role in 2022. After his most recent trip, he is scheduled to lead another trip to Kenya in early 2028.
